After the passing of the only matriarchal figure she ever had, Dierdre's life becomes nothing short of a nightmare. As if her foster father's grief-driven drinking problem wasn't enough, she has to deal with his new wife, who just has a talent for making her life hell, even more so, when her evil stepmother somehow convinces him to have Dierdre sent away to an obscure new school on the other side of the country, and Dierdre can do nothing about it. Upon arrival at this school, she immediately becomes suspicious: why are there so many CCTV cameras? Why are most of the kids in that school orphans? Why do students keep disappearing, each one after being invited for tea by a particular teacher? And what exactly are those awful noises heard echoing through the building each night?

And then there's the "drop-dead gorgeous" guy who mysteriously turns up, a man straight, literally out of a dream she had had the night before she had come to the Academy, a secretive, aloof creature who seems to know more about her than she knows about herself. Where does he come from? Who is he? And how does he seem to know Dierdre's deepest secret, an abnormal talent she dare not expose? Things don't improve any when she catches feelings for this mysterious guy she can't fight off, try as she might, and they get worse when Gena, a beautiful, vivacious girl, seems to have woed him over ...

They all initially agree to help James, and also want to make some good money from the party. But, there's one girl who wants to see it all burn up in flames. Sammi, a mean, catty, popular girl who has the hots for James, tries everything in her power to ruin Emma. After a bunch of run ins with the both of them, Sammi makes up a rumor about James, insinuating it was Emma who started it. James watches Emma embarrass herself on multiple different occasions, And still wont explain why he is upset with her. But, after Sammi gets a football player to put a cockroach in Emma's hair in class, Emma runs out to leave. She then runs into James, who Offers to give her a ride home. He then tells her he fiund out it was Sammi who started the rumor. And to make it up to her, he brings her to see her favorite series, 'Raven-Man' at the Drive-in theatre.
