Long ago, when the pyramids were still young, mighty Egyptian kings played a game of great and terrible power. However, these "Shadow Games" soon erupted into a war that threatened to destroy the entire world, that is until a brave and powerful young pharaoh locked the magic away, imprisoning it within the seven mystical Millennium Items.
Many millennia later in the 1960s, Solomon Moto has retrieved the Millennium Pendant, now called the Millennium Puzzle, from the Tomb of the Nameless Pharaoh. Over the years, however, no one has been able to assemble the puzzle. That is until Solomon's grandson, Yugi, finds the puzzle in the family game shop and spends eight years trying to solve it. Now that he's solved it, his adventure has begun.
After 5,000 years, the powers of the Millennium Puzzle have been unlocked, and the wheel of fate has begun to turn! Thus, the puzzle infuses its solver, Yugi, with ancient magical energies as well as the spirit of the young Pharaoh; for destiny has chosen him to defend the world from the return of the Shadow Games just as the brave Pharaoh did thousands of years ago.
"Please..."
An ancient prophecy whispers that, if all seven Millennium Items are brought together along with the three Legendary God Cards, the magic will once again be released, and the Pharaoh spirit's memories will be restored...
"...Remember me..."
Yet there is still more, for the young Pharaoh did not stand alone against the Shadow Games. He was joined by his loving Queen, whose sacrifice permitted him the time necessary to lock the magic away. Now that the puzzle has been solved, the Queen's spirit has awoken within her reincarnation: Songo Fujimoto.
"...My King."
However, the prophecy also whispers of impending tragedy - that history will be repeated once again.
What will be the fate of the nameless Queen's incarnation?
