Laila Hughes, a nineteen year old schizophrenic, has battled for her own reality for as long as she can remember. Plagued by abusive voices and manic delusions, Laila lives in fear of a man who is stalking her every move. Her life is a revolving door of hospitals and treatments, and things are only complicated further when, to the horror of the wider world, mental health patients begin to develop inhuman abilities. Laila is used to having reality wrenched from her grasp - but never like this.
Schizophrenia is an unending battle, but it is one she knows how to fight. But falling in love, facing imprisonment, navigating superpowers and grieving the loss of her only relative, Laila's world begins to crumble for the final time.
Because in the end, all she will ever be is a maniac.
