I am well known by two names, and neither bring pleasant feelings. I am Death, or as I am frequently called, the Grim reaper.

The Grim reaper, a once mortal man, who now is over 400 years old has a heart of solid stone. Or so he had thought. With the arrival of a certain four year old girl, he soon finds he has much more kindness than he'd known. Insert the possibility of a love interest, some tampering with fate itself, and an unnamed foe, and he has a much more complicated life than what he bargained for.

Without a word I leaned down and scooped up her small form, hoisting her up against my chest. Her arms came to rest around my neck and I could hear her sniffle a bit.
