Charles is on his way from a small farm in North Carolina to his own home near Asheville, With him is a small girl that he believes to be suffering from tuberculosis. The young doctor had promised the child's parents he would personally take care of her since they themselves were unable to come with and felt wary of leaving their daughter in the care of someone they had never met. The trip was going well until they're interrupted by a group of armed men looking to rob and murder the both of them. Charles fails to keep the child safe, but is given a second chance by a new stranger to try again.

(The book is under editing right now, and I'll be changing the location of the safe haven from Columbus to Cincinnati. The story was mostly imporvised, and I don't like how it's turned out. I've had a lot of new and hopefully more interesting ideas, and there's so much that I decided to rewrite the whole thing completely. It'll have the same style of writing with the different points of view, but separated between books instead of chapters, and I already have a storyline laid for the first 2 or 3.
