I moved my hand down the handle of the black widow knife, feeling the familiar grip and the gold and sapphire inlay that seems to be slick with my blood. I tear a piece of shirt I am wearing, taking a small moment to say goodbye to my favorite t shirt, then I reach up and around the knife to wrap my make-shift bandage around the wound, wrapping it tight, securing it with a small knot in the middle of my chest. With that, I begin to jog, understanding that if I stay still too long, Greg will find me.
Or, I would have, if not for the three shadows standing right in front of me. I almost flinched, but I would give no man, or woman, the satisfaction of seeing me scared. I schooled my expression into a calm and collected mask, while on the inside I felt ice incase my veins.
"What, pray tell, are you three doing here?" I asked, my mask perfectly in place, my mind a mess of nerves at the thought of someone seeing my wound or my father running around chasing me in the middle of night, in the forest on the edge of the city, the place all his torments happen. The shadows, for I could not make out their features, jumped at the sound of my voice. I could not help it, the laughter bubbled out of me, sending me into a bundle of giggles. My wound hurt like a bee on a stick, but even the pain could not stop me from my laughter.
