"Are you looking?" he whispered down the phone to me.
I listened to his slow, shallow breathing. I glanced up at the moon as I leant against my window. I watched the stars twinkle as my heart warmed knowing that even when we're apart, we could look at the same starry night.
"Lucy?" he said, louder this time, checking I was still listening to him. I heard the strain in his voice, and I felt the lump in my throat I was so used to feeling every day.
"I'm here, I'm looking" I said quietly down the phone. He heard me sigh.
"Please don't be sad, I can't bear it knowing I'm hurting you" he whispered to me as his voice cracked. "I'll love you till the day I die."
I felt a tear slipping down my cheek, as I knew that day is closer than I want to think about.

Lucy Dean and Harry Scott have been together since they were 14. They were friends throughout their childhood, went to school together and their worlds revolved around each other. This is an alternate ending short story for my "Cross My Heart" story. You would need to read or at least start reading Cross My Heart first, to understand THIS story!! In "Cross My Heart", Harry and Gwen are boyfriend/girlfriend after Harry saves her from a life of captivity. But something happens.... This story starts at the moment in Cross My Heart, that Harry is shot in the chest. Instead of him pulling through and surviving, as he does in that story, I've branched off and written this short story of what would happen to Gwen and Louis if Harry died.
