June treaded to the far corner of the library where she usually sat with her best friends, and dropped a box on the table in front of them. "Guys, you need to check this out," she said, bringing out the contents of the box. Lola's eyes went wide as she saw a piece of expensive jewelry fall out, while Carlos turned to June with a dead serious expression on his face. "Where the heck did that come from?" he questioned. She dropped on the chair by the table with a weary expression. "I found it by my door." ************************* June had always had a life that was close to perfect. Caring parents, the perfect little sister, the perfect best friend and the perfect grades, until her world was turned upside down...and not in a good way. If there's one thing she saw herself becoming... it wasn't a "mother". It becomes harder when she decides to search for the biological father she never knew. what with the mystery packages at her doorstep. And secrets being unveiled at every point. Being a legal guardian is hard when you have a little sister dealing with trauma, stalkers at every corner and best friends who are unhinged and bring their own personal drama, but it promises to be a terrific senior year. "He seemed like a puzzle to me, and I really liked solving puzzles. But somehow, I don't think that I would ever be able to solve this one." Amelia Heart, with her large smile and her infectious laugh, is what most people would think has the perfect life. They would watch as she went back to her beach house, as she went out of her way to stop and chat to her neighbours, as she would get the perfect grades. She was everything you wanted to be, and yet nobody had gotten close enough to her to understand her life in this small town at all. When her plans of leaving suddenly change, and she is forced to start attending the local school, her life takes a route that she hadn't accounted for. A new group of friends, a chance at a normal teenage life, even a potential love interest - things that Amelia had never even thought about happening after everything she'd been through. But happiness is only temporary in her life, and she knew that. It wasn't surprising to her when her past began to catch up with her present, it was simply a good thing that it had taken as long as it had. Things start happening in Amelia's life that simply don't make sense, even to her. They do say you should always keep an eye over your shoulder, especially when you know you're being hunted, but for Amelia, even an eye in every direction wouldn't be enough. Time begins counting down, fast. Did she want to involve her friends? Could the new people in her life be trusted? She wouldn't have long to make a decision. Not before her world comes blazing down, the final battle on the horizon. Tick, tock, Amelia. You don't want to be late to the party when you're the guest of honour. COMPLETED 06/11/20
