'Where now the horse and the rider?'

Prequel to 'Rain on the Mountain'.

Before the storm clouds of war gathered.
Before the growing shadow in the East took form.
Before the Riddermark knew the choking hold of a wizard's malice.
Before the illegitimate daughter of a King set her feet to the path before her.

In a world of men; of Kings and Lords, of Marshals and Stewards, Théadain, daughter of Théoden, must fight for her place among them. Whilst the roles of those around her are clearly defined, history and tradition have written no place for a bastard in the Golden Hall.

She will not let circumstance define her, for the spirit of a Shieldmaiden of Rohan is strong. Her love for her land is fierce, and she will not let adventure pass her by.

Book 2 in the 'Lament for the Rohirrim' Series.

[Book 1 - 'Rain on the Mountain' follows Théadain's journey with the Fellowship of the Ring.]

[Based on a combination of J.R.R. Tolkien's books and Peter Jackson's films - any characters not created by them are my own.]

The story is COMPLETE! All votes and comments greatly appreciated. I'd be absolutely thrilled to have you join me on this journey of self-discovery in Middle Earth. The best writing in this story belongs to @GreenScholarTales, who kindly allowed me to weave my romance into her story, 'Starting Anew.' Please go and see her other works and her original series on Wattpad, The Book of Terrus. The beautiful painting on the cover was kindly loaned by the highly talented Irishmellow, see her awesome work at https://irishmellow.deviantart.com/ Copyright: Tolkien owns all the familiar characters, Jackson & Co. own Tauriel and the starting premise, Green Scholar owns several significant events and almost all of the rangers ... but one, Wren, she is all mine!
