Elijah is superstitious, and roommate JC isn't helping with having a black cat and refusing to wish on a wishbone last Thanksgiving.
Now for some reason, JC took home a mistletoe to hang up on the ceiling for the Christmas party he's holding. It seems like Elijah can't pass JC without them being under the mistletoe, and it's bad luck to not kiss under the mistletoe. Elijah went on his whole life without causing bad luck, and he wasn't going to cause it just because JC is performance shy.
