Another "modern girl ends up in Skyrim" story. I've read several of these over the years, some fantastic, some less so...
Current world affairs being what they are, I stumbled on the inspiration to write one of my own. 

Katie Jones... one of the few modern, real world women who would probably actually survive if she were suddenly thrust into the world of Skyrim...
With the exception of having a few video games, she hardly considers herself very modern actually...
Life after college got surprisingly boring for a history major with no interest in teaching, but then when the whole world shuts down it actually got more boring... at first...

Living in Skyrim might actually be more to her liking than modern America... except that she's not the Dragonborn...
The last character she played as is the Dragonborn, and now Katie has to figure out how she fits into the picture.


(This is fanfiction. I do not own the Skyrim setting or most of the characters. The cover came from a free download from Wallpaper Cave that I found by googling "Skyrim scenery".)

On one of my Skyrim play-throughs, I did the thing where you drop a piece of armor near Farkas and then tell him he can have it when he asks, and that makes him available as a follower... so I took Farkas with me all over Skyrim even though I'd only started the Companion's quest line. That prompted me to look some things up and come up with a few head-cannons... So here's the story that I tried to make tie everything in my head together... "Farkas is intrigued when he meets a small imperial archer and is unexpectedly caught up in her adventures. As he learns more about her he soon decides he'll do everything he can to protect her... and that promise takes him places he never imagined he'd go; brings discoveries no one thought possible; and changes the course of everything..." Marked "mature" just to be safe, there is occasional foul language and graphic descriptions of cannon-typical violence, implied sexual content, and character death and grieving. This is a story set in Skyrim, and you could call it fan fiction if you like. But in truth, it's a medieval fantasy that tells the somber tale of a girl named Elsie. Born a Nightingale, Elsie grew up in one of Cyrodiil's hardest eras. Through her journey across her world and her time, she fought to survive, loved and lost, laid her loved ones to rest, founded a new religion, and ultimately built an empire. She dealt with Daedric Princes-or rather, she was a pawn in their divine and intricate games. As she grew, she gained immense power, ruling over people and nations alike. Yet, throughout her life, she managed to hold on to her innocence and the child within. So this story, told and written by her own hand, may seem to you both naive and tender, despite the weighty themes it explores. I told her this might be the case, but she only smiled and replied, "Daddy, let things be as they are. That's the world as I saw and felt it; those are the places and times I lived in." Third story to "His Harbinger," sequel to "Something to Protect." Everything makes much more sense if you at least read "His Harbinger" first. Vilkas x Dragonborn (established) Farkas x Lydia (also established and a bit background) Based on my play through of the Dragonborn DLC with my Dragonborn Krinna Dovh, a female Nord. Krinna has visions and premonitions so there are some things she just knows (continuing a headcannon established in the first two books). Mostly told from Vilkas's perspective, with occasional snippets from the Dragonborn's perspective. Also explores aspects of married life; Vilkas being hot-tempered, but sweet and loyal. Story is set after the Companions quest line, the civil war, and the main story line is complete (events of "His Harbinger") and after the Dawnguard DLC (events of "Something to Protect") Also not entirely cannon compliant. And of course this is a fanfiction, the only thing unique to me is my specific characterization of the Dragonborn, everything else belongs to Bethesda, including portions of the dialogue. And lastly, marked mature for some strongly suggestive occasions (I won't write the details, but they're married), and occasional vulgar language.
