Charles Alblice has always led an ordinary life in Birchtowne. He enjoyed the company of his cousin, Quinn, and their best friend, Michael. The three lived their lives as carefree as any other teenager would. But life in Birchtowne gets messy when kids and teenagers alike begin disappearing every week without so much of a word of hope from Flare - the town's superhero - or the authorities. When Michael joins the ranks of the missing, Charles and Quinn are thrown into disarray. Quinn is angry; Charles feels lost and completely and utterly helpless. After a run-in with his ex, Lea - who happens to be Flare - and a near run-over by a truck, Charles learns he has supernatural abilities. He doesn't even have time to process the revelation before Lea is pushing him to be something bigger than himself. After accidentally saving a strange girl in the woods, Charles learns the disappearances happening all over town are just a minor detail in a bigger, more sinister plot than he ever could have imagined. Alongside Quinn, he swears to defeat the powers conspiring against the town. A boy wakes up in a broken world, his backpack scattered, his heart heavy with questions. The sky feels too quiet, the shadows too close. Nothing looks familiar-except the weight of betrayal already burning inside him. He doesn't know who to trust. He doesn't even know if the light that saved him is real... or just another lie. But one thing is clear: the world is falling apart, and he's the only one still standing. In a place where hope is shattered and family cuts deeper than enemies, survival isn't enough-you have to fight to keep your soul.

Rein, on the cusp on adulthood, found his family and town destroyed by forces beyond his understanding. Thus, the destiny within his heart called to him to seek out the cause of his calamity. So begins his journey as an advancer-- a title given to those who use magic to shape the world to their will. I've always been a fan of progression fantasy. However, I do feel disappointed by many of them, with too many characters that vanish into irrelevancy, sometimes arcs that are overly repetitive and a lack of characters ideals. In this story, I aim to instill more character ideals, motivations, and integrate said characters throughout the story, and ensure their interaction with the main character remain relevant to his heart. Perhaps, it's best to say I want the story to have a 'human spirit' that one could feel in old-school wuxia and action/adventure stories.
