Joel Burns is nineteen, a college freshman, and totally not prepared for whatever life throws his way. It doesn't help he lives in a world where people can be exposed to magic during traumatic events and get abilities out of it, and that he's hiding a few extra secrets from all these cool friends he's making. it also doesn't help he might be trying to find a way to dismantle old beliefs in society while balancing his science homework, too.
INCLUDES: talk about all sorts of trauma, abuse, bad things happening, but also people helping other people and healing from their experiences. also LGBTQ+ characters, including trans characters, nonbinary characters, neopronouns, and more!

Phoenix wasn't meant to have magical abilities, and he most definitely shouldn't have been able to make all the money in the world disappear just by thinking about it. To make matters worse, it came with a minor side effect: a disease called Gold fever. In other words, people started to turn into gold. Over the course of a single day, Phoenix becomes the most hated person in the world. As the economy collapses around them, only three of his friends are willing to stay by his side. Their job is to keep Phoenix alive while he tries to make money reappear and find a cure to Gold fever. Which turns out to be more challenging than they thought, as they find out someone is tailing Phoenix with the intention to kill.Concluida

As Najwa mourns both her mom and the loss of her closest friend, Rain can't tear his gaze away from the golden remnants of their enemies and Rio does their best to keep everyone fed and healthy. Aspen isn't much help, not when he is holed up in his room, terrified of the power he holds. It's been said that you only realize the importance of someone when they're gone. Whether or not that is true, Aspen would give his life to get Phoenix back. There's guilt, undoubtedly, but also the fact that he has a huge crush on him. They have never even had the chance to kiss or confess their feelings, and that's just tragic. But hey, there's always a chance for a long-distance relationship. As you might imagine, the connection from one world to another isn't ideal. But if they can make it work, there's a chance to return Phoenix and the rest of the infected back to life.Concluida

Will the perilous journey through tribe territory get him killed because of his so-called "dangerous" abilities or will he survive long enough to see the war finally come to an end as he's always hoped it would?
