In the modern day world, Taryn Eaton isn't too keen on living in Dauntless, her home town. All her "friends" are daredevils with no common sense. People hate her family. Her family hates people. She wonders what it would be like to live in another city, like Abnegation or Erudite. She's even heard that in Amity they have their own gardens. She knows there has to be more to life than jumping off buildings and hoping you don't die. But every time she asks someone about the other cities, they say,"Oh, you don't belong there." What's that supposed to mean?! As Taryn's curiosity increases, she decides to travel to the another city and get a glimpse of "the good life."
