An immortal species has been living in the woods for years. They're in the middle of their Dark Ages and any human they've come to find never comes back out alive. They're killed on the spot.

'watch out humans, there's a Reaper in town. try not to die!' ---- prologue "Mitch we have to leave!" Annabelle yelped, holding a baby girl with black hair and blue eyes in her arms. "leave! go somewhere safe!" Mitch said, pulling a knife out of his leg. they were fleeing from the townspeople who had lit their house on fire screaming; "be gone evil demons!" all the couple wanted was to be able to live like normal humans, but atlass that was impossible. Reapers keep taking lives, and Humans continue feering them. and so, the couple grabbed their baby girl; Staffie. their hellhound; Unicorn and grabbed their death scythe's. -one year later- they arrived in a human city where some friends lived. "Mitch, what are we going to do now?" "we will live like humans for as long as possible. and, if we're lucky, we can keep this awful fate of being a Reaper from our daughter." he said looking down at the small child holding his hand tightly. and they did keep being a Reaper from her. and, when she turned 18 the decided they should tell her; but not empty handed. so they left to get her a death scythe. little did they know; they would never see her again. and she would have to figure it out on her own.

It is not long before Jago, the ruler of Saffire, learns that a woman on Saffire is pregnant and he unleashes all his power to prevent the birth. Jago will not give up power. Demalynn is surprised to find out she is the Helper, but is astounded to learn the identity of the Gravidarum. Demalynn must battle to stay alive and fumbles towards the realization that Aiden is much more than a close friend. She is certain, with the certainty that only a seventeen-year-old can possess, that Aiden is her only true love. Demalynn is desperate to find a way back home until she must make a choice: stay with Aiden on Saffire or go back home and re-unite her family. There's no place like home.
