There's a test. There's a mistake. There's two girls on the run.

As Emma watched the screen, waiting for her results, her heart beat uncontrollably in her chest. She looked around at the guards outlining the room. Next to her, Rosie was staring at the blue door. The failure door.

"We'll make it, Rosie. We always do." But even Emma knew she sounded unsure. Rosie nodded, forging a smile anyway.

In a flash the lights went dark and the screen began to brighten. Simultaneously, there was a chorus of sighs, and an army of gasps.

Emma held her breath searching for her name, and finding Rosie's. "You did it."

"So did you!" Rosie pointed to the bottom half of the screen. Emma quickly found her name and the blocked writing next to it. PASSED.

Behind them a gunshot pierced the air. Chaos erupted. The guards panicked and the room was plunged into darkness yet again. This time when the screen lit up, it held a different result. For everyone.

"But it's not all their fault." I sob. "They aren't the reason she's dead." "... and neither are you... Why do you insist on blaming yourself?" "Because I could've done better... I should have been there... I should have saved her..." "You were there with her all night, you did all that you could have." I shake my head. "No, Will, I wasn't." I clear the tears trying to see what his expression was. "I left in the middle of the night... To-meet Logan..." I look at his face. "That still doesn't make it your fault..." I nod. "It does" I start to walk inside when he calls out my name, I whirl around to face him. "Why do you care so much?!" "I'm afraid you're going to hurt yourself!" I smile. "No, I only hurt others" I turn back around to face the door, when he spoke one last time. "Please do something that gives you reason to come out." I thought about that. "Go home, Will." I close the door behind me and proceed to walk up the stairs and return back to my beloved bed. As I lay in my bed, I stare at the ceiling. 'Do something that gives you reason to come out.' Is that what he had said. he's right, and I had just the thing to do. I'd find Ellie's killer and make them pay. A dystopian young adult novel involving romance, secret experiments on human subjects, and a group of teenagers' will to survive. Reader Comments: "I'm gonna gush about your book real quick...all the technology has a purpose and is beautifully explained so I can picture it in my mind...the whole concept of the book is completely original...*moment of silence for your beautiful arch of character development* everything your characters do is strictly them but they develop enough to show more about themselves without you straight up telling the reader about them" -Vairl9023 "Ahh!!! This is so good!! I will be anxiously awaiting the next Chapter!!" -CrystalBagot "Brilliant...ohh, this is very catchy, good work" -IndeeMaynard "I love this so far" -BrianneMorris "You've done a great job at creating a mysterious mood" -poisonedpen *** All Evita Creedy, 17, wants is to finish her degree and be accepted for a prestigious job with the city's Department of Energy. Opening my eyes I groaned . The breathe left me all at once . He was the one who pushed . His eyes held so many emotions . anger , hatred and betrayal . It pained me to see that I was the cause of them . Suddenly his fist came flying with full force towards my face and my eyes widened at the thought that he was going to hit me . Guns, revenge and buildings to bomb, what could go wrong? ✮ He came in, gun held out in front of him in one hand while the other was resting on his hip where a sharp dagger gleamed in the light. "Come on out little girl, why not make this easier for both of us. The agency you ran away from just want to have a little talk, that's all." She scoffed internally. Yeah right. Then the footsteps ceased. She peeked to the right, then to the left. Neither direction showed any sign of the intruder. She looked up in front of her and gasped, the glint of steel and smell of death as overwhelming as it was adrenaline inducing, exciting. "Boo." ✮ Murder, accidents, assassinations. Call it what you will, it's all the same, all has the same life breaking, mind shattering consequences - be it for the victim or the bystander. It had shaped Alex in a way no one should be. Broken down and rebuilt into the perfect soldier, one who had the power to change the world, to fight battles that would either make or break the carefully constructed vision we all live in. The only small, minute, really unimportant detail - it's pretty hard to get into a government classified site when you're 15 years old and have a rag-tag team of double-crossing back-stabbers behind you. Not to mention the threat of a world war and ghost hanging above your head. Armed with sarcasm, wit, and a hell of a lot of aggressive intentions, it won't be too long till a sticky situation is all that's ahead of you. Sometimes, running head-first into a situation isn't the best idea. Instead, you gotta play a game. A deadly game where either you have all the pieces on the board, or you have nothing.
