The Lead Mare is the top of the herd, she makes all of the decisions and keeps the herd thriving. Of course being the lead mare is no easy task and not every mare has the skills required for such a job. However when Rose of the dusk (aka Rose) is born the herd immediately knows that this little filly has the qualities of a lead mare. As Rose grows up she becomes the lead of the herd and must lead her family group through all that threatens them.
