While investigating the mysterious case of mass serial killer Kira, L and Eve stumble across a Death Note after a tennis match at the university while walking back to the hotel. Soon after discovering the Death Note both of them begin to see a creature who they find out is a Shinigami. The Shinigami reveals himself as Ikari who tells them all about his world, and promises to watch over them as they continue to try unmasking and uncovering the identity of Kira.
