8th year. The 7 years are coming back. Although Harry is acting differently. More miserable. Lonelier. Almost depressed. He left his friends and spend all his free time on the shore of the black lake. Sometimes even including dinner/breakfast so that he barely ate.

He's so lonely... till he finds a friend. But not a human one. And what's the best friend to a person? A dog. Or a pet in this case.

It was a late evening on the black lake when he came across a ferret. He talked to the ferret of everything and nothing. Worries and dreams. Past and future. Enemies and lovers.

But who the ferret actually was left him stunned and scared out of his skin thinking they'll mock him for everything he told them. But no. He then met the other side of them too.

The characters are owned by J.K.Rowling. the front cover does not belong to me.

[176k words] A/N: It is in your best interest to check literally ANYTHING else I've ever published instead of reading this. Thank you!* Harry knew he could never be friends with Draco. At first, he thought it was because they were enemies. Completely different. But when Ella Amster showed him that they are actually quite similar, the reason why their friendship would never be real, changed. They were both too complicated to be friends; both too complicated to stop on that. And while a little mystery of Draco's "wrong" turn to the right is poking the back of his head, his demons (that he hoped have gone after his summer adventures) are just waiting to attack him again. One coincidence after another will lead Harry right in front of Draco's so well kept secret. And he will stand there all alone his eyes staring at Draco's that suddenly weren't so silver as usual. CW: suicidal thoughts, depressive episodes, guilt tripping, infidelity, suicide attempt →→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→→ *WARNING - READ BEFORE READING: This was written when I was 13 years old and just figuring out what writing really means so this is of dubious quality. Other things to keep in mind, aside from the trigger warnings, are the fact that there are plot holes, there are appearances of toxic relationships (which are not acknowledged to be toxic relationships), mental health is handled really badly (there is some romanization of depression and a blatant lack of proper mental health help being sought out or given), some plot points are poorly resolved, most OCs are two-dimensional and frustrating, etc. So, proceed with caution if you still wish to read it and if not, I hope you find more enjoyment in some of my other work which is more thought out and well-written such as "Apples and Oranges", "Wings of Salvation" and "Capax infinity" for Drarry stories or one of my one-shot collections.
A Potions Mishap by invisible_thestral
18 parts Ongoing
When the eighth years return to the newly rebuilt Hogwarts to finish their NEWTs, a lot of things have changed. The Wizarding World is finally at peace and the looming threat of Voldemort diminished forever. But there's still a year left to go through. And it's already off to a rocky start. Harry Potter is showered with praise and celebrated as the one who saved the Wizarding World. But with the wounds of the war scarring deep and a heartbreak to handle, he doesn't feel ready to step into the role the world designed for him. A problem Draco Malfoy can only dream of. Spending the summer cut off from the world in his childhood home, the only thing he wants is to flee its tight grasp. Yet, Hogwarts isn't the same it once has been and has nothing to offer for the former Death Eater but cold shoulders and dark corners, where he is supposed to linger unnoticed. But everything changes with a terrible potions mishap that forces them to pretend to be the other. A task already difficult enough, yet they soon find themselves tangled in a web of lies and threats regarding nothing less but the safety of Hogwarts itself. To escape the effects of the potion and solve the mystery of the attacks, they have no choice but to trust the one they had every right to be wary of for the past seven years. Each other. -------- (mostly compliant with canon; enemies to friends; implied drarry; no smut; mentions of past trauma; descriptions of violence and injuries; body swap) started: July 2024 finished: - ~150k words
