The younger girl survived because of her friends. For them. The first five or six months after her father disappeared were full of tears, silence, and them coaxing the girl out of bed. While normally loud and rowdy, and focused on doing whatever they wanted, the Pogues had come to the mutual agreement that their adventures would just need be put on the back burner. They had a responsibility, and that was to take care of each other. Whether it be getting her some sunlight, making sure she ate, or even brushing her teeth for her, they had stuck together, determined not to let their group fall apart.
After all... could they really be the Pogues without one another?
