She struggles to keep her vampiric nature a secret. But when an old enemy from Starlight's past comes into town, she realizes they are in danger. Taking Place before Twilight left Canterlot to Ponyville to meet her eventual friends, Twilight got a Special Present from her Teacher and Mentor, Princess Celestia, which was an Ancient book that features Ancient Spells, Twilight being very eager, decides to cast one of the spells, but in doing so, She let herself fall into a Trap that she wasn't sure she would be able to get out of with some grave dangers ahead.

Being the victim of an uncontrolled surge did not only grant her enough magic to give life to a dragon but apparently also made it possible for her to get glimpses of her future, showing her a destiny she really does not care for. So, knowing where her current path would lead her, there is really no sensible alternative than throwing everything away and changing her destiny to one she can agree to, setting her up for a life of intrigue and adventure, uncovering the many mysteries surrounding her and a certain pegasus, to find out who they really are. Unfortunately, in doing so, she ruins the carefully laid out plans a certain Princess of the Sun had drawn up. But knowing the forgiving nature of Celestia, there is no way that could lead to conflict, right?

Twilight Sparkle and her friends travel to the Crystal Empire for her first princess summit. Twilight feels both nervous and excited about the event and is self-conscious about wearing her crown. However, her friends are supportive as always. When they meet with the other princesses, Celestia notices how tired Twilight and her friends look after their journey and sends all eight of them off to bed. Later that night, a cloaked unicorn sneaks into the castle and steals Twilight's crown. The next morning, Princess Celestia identifies the thief as Sunset Shimmer, her former student. The princesses explain that the mirror from which Sunset Shimmer escaped is a gateway to an alternate world and task Twilight with going into this other world to retrieve her crown. Little does she know, she will encounter her friends once again. What adventures await Twilight in this alternate world?
