Fire and Lace (Zuko x OC Fanfiction)

Because I am watching ATLA all over again since it's on Netflix now, I decided to try my hand at a Zuko fanfiction. I used to write it a lot back when it was on TV, but *CRINNGEEE* to little me. Now that I'm older and have a better hand, I'm gonna give it a go.

This is based in the original ATLA and is slightly AU. Still in the story, but another character added to major parts of the storyline. Otherwise, pretty original story-centric.

Sayomi was raised in the southern water tribe with Katara, another water bender. She had questionable parentage - her hair is white and her eyes are green and she is not as dark-skinned as the other members of the tribes. Still, she was accepted as a water bender and raised amongst them.

The night that Katara's mom sacrifices herself to protect Katara, Sayomi had wandered away from the tribe and onto the ship (the reason will be apparent later). She is traded off to another ship heading back to the capital as a commodity. Surely a small child, especially a girl, with such unique hair and eyes could be sold off to the highest bidder. Though, an admiral on one of the ships she found herself on had just lost two of his sons in the war, so when he saw the small girl, he knew what horrors would be ahead for her and decided to take her on as his own.

And thus, she began her life in the Fire Nation capital. Growing up alongside Zuko, Mei, Ty Lee and Azula. Azula made her life miserable every chance she got because she was an orphan, but the others, especially Mei and Zuko, took to her and grew to be her close friends.
