I had the TV turned on after school while messages from my dad came. "Are you there?" Hello? Are you there? I will try to come home as soon as I find the stairs" You could hear other people yelling and glass breaking in the back round. I was confused all of a sudden. There were sirens screaming loud everywhere. I stared at the TV for a moment. There were two buildings on the news. One building was caught on fire while the other one seems fine. "BOOM!" The ground shook a little while a plane on TV came across the other building and started burning.
"Are you there? I thought you would be home right now. Please answer the phone. Are you there? Hello?β I wanted to answer the phone, but I couldn't. Suddenly, I slowly understood what was happening. It can't be. Why? Why was this happening to me? Why now? I started to cry.
I couldn't help it. All I did was cry and hear messages from my dad. "Hello? If you're there, please pick up the phone. I just wanted to say I love you more than anything in the wor--" It got disconnected. I started to cry even harder. On the exact moment, I stared at the TV. Both buildings were burning down. It was the day to remember, but for me I wanted to forget every single detail. That day was September 11.

How We Met
As I see my mom walk out the door I look at my dad smiling at me. The way he smiled at me made realize how afraid he was. I glance at him and give him a fake smile before he comes up to me and gives me a hug. The warmth of his body was reassuring but I feel the tears start to come down his face. I didn't want to lose him......ever. My dad Kevin who always is there by my side needed me there for him I glance at him and smile and he kisses my cheek. He whispers "Everything...will be alright." I wasn't quite sure what he meant but I nod my head. He lets go of me and looks at me before he turns away he says "I will be in my room if you need anything, okay princess?" In a quiet tone I respond with an okay. I recall my mom saying before she left to me " I love you Samantha." It just replays and replays in my head "I love you Samantha." There's a slight pause before he responds, " That you're blind? Well no shit. I just wanted to know what the papers were." So calmly that it causes a shiver up my spine. Despite my whole body telling me not to, I turn in his direction. His words seem to repeat in my head. Any composure that I had-gone- replaced with an overwhelming amount of insecurity. The moment he said those words, I thought he could be the somebody. The somebody that wasn't like the rest of the students here. But instead a small gasp leaves his lips and he doesn't say anything anymore. I close my eyes and face the front of the class again. "No shit, right?" I mutter under my breath. My eyes will always be a clear give away to the fact that I'm blind. From my memory of before, when everything had color, they were a deep brown. After the accident however, most of the color left and a dullness entered, according to my mom. She claims they still have the appearance of normal eyes, just slightly discolored hazel ones. I got more and more annoyed as he drove up, parked and unmounted his bike. He pulled off his helmet and shook his head, noticing me there staring at him. We just stared at each other, neither moving, neither speaking. He started to make his way up his driveway, not even bothering with a greeting, so I called out to him. "Hey! Where've you been?" I tried not to sound accusatory or angry, and I succeeded. Though I sounded more hurt than anticipated. He stopped and walked towards me. He walked kind of slowly, like he was trying to avoid me. I stood on the steps, fighting the urge to walk towards him so we could talk. Never ever did I think I'd want to talk to him, yet here I was. Once in front of me he stayed at the bottom step, not climbing up further. He said nothing and I repeated my question once again, "Where have you been?" He shifted then just replied with "Out." "Out?" I repeated, getting refueled with annoyance. "That's it? You've been missing all day and all you have to say is you were out?" "Fuck, dude, what are you, my mom? I was out! Are you trying to keep tabs on me or something?" I was angry at him, and started to feel feelings towards him that I haven't felt in months. I stepped down two steps to look at him eye level, ready to argue with him. But, rather than open my mouth to fight, I found myself staring at his tired gaze and freezing for a moment. I didn't want to fight with him, and I saw he didn't want to fight with me-at least, that was my hope. I let my glare fall and closed the distance between us, wrapping my arms around him in the tightest hug I could muster. He seemed shocked, remaining rigid in my arms until I quietly muttered, "I was worried about you, jackass," into his neck. He just sighed before relaxing and hugging me back.
