your original family was slaughtered for their unique singing voices and color changed eyes
unlike your brotherin the kurta your clan eyes were normally Amber and turned too a dark obsidian purple ((like a endermans)) most in your clan have blue and or white hair
and why I say unique singing voices your clan was compared to sirens for their alluring voices.

and the only reason your at the exam is the same as Killua too get a hunters license for fun.
