(Zuko x Reader)

(Y/N) (L/N) is the daughter of a peasant family of the Fire Nation, and is a prodigy with anything she tries. When Fire Lord Azulon learns of her, he immediately appoints her highly among the ranks in the Fire Nation army.
The only perk of being such a young general, is that she gets to spend most of her time in the palace, studying and training the royal children. Her and Zuko become close friends quickly, bonding over their shared understanding of being treated like an outsider despite their gifts.
Then, (Y/N) is sent out to finally join the war and fight alongside General Iroh at Ba Seng Sei, where she betrays the Fire Nation by defending all of the innocent people they're attacking. She is taken prisoner and thrown in jail upon their return, only given a minute to speak with her friends before seemingly disappearing forever.

There is an old folklore about the Children of the Forest. They were mortal spirits who were the First Benders with the ability to travel freely to the spirit world and to the human realm. Each with their own element of air, water, earth and fire. They were one with their elemental animals and travelled the spirit and human realm freely. Fire Lord Azulon was one of the very few humans aware that this folklore was more than a mere legend, although slightly altered, but factual. He sought out dragons and in one of his searches he found a Child of the Forest with a Fire Element by sheer unfortunate luck and after defeating her, he imprisoned her. (Y/N) was seen as the key object of victory within the Fire Nation and a driving force of power to their legacy and supremacy but to Zuko she was not a weapon of mass destruction or a spirit creature; she was so much more. As the Sozins Comet approaches and the Avatar Aang prepares to face Firelord Ozai with the help of his friends, it's clear that Zuko and (Y/N)'s paths are more far apart than they know. Years before the Siege of Ba Sing Se, General Iroh discovers a young girl among the remains of a decimated Water Tribe village. Raised in the heart of the Fire Nation, she grows close to the young crown prince and accompanies him and Iroh on their adventures. ________________________________________________________________________________ **This is an old story I had written in my head years ago when the series was still on Nickelodeon, and most of what I had originally written out was dialogue, so I apologize for any lack of detail or imagery-I don't have much time to devote to it as I'd like. I've read quite a few fanfic stories out there and this one isn't very good in comparison, but I'll post it for others who might find it entertaining--it was certainly entertaining to write. Also, I understand a lot of readers don't like stories that follow canon. This one does follow the show for the most part, but eventually digresses, follows, and digresses again. Disclaimer: I own nothing of the world of ATLA, although a few characters were seriously harmed (or killed) in the imagining of this fictional story.

Xia became famous for her yellow fire, not nearly as dangerously hot as Azula's blue fire, but a warmth that fuels Xia's will. Though Xia was close friends with Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee, she volunteered to accompany Zuko and Iroh on their hunt to find the Avatar. Calm and patient Xia became Zuko's new sparring partner, and Iroh's favorite Pai Sho challenger. "How can you be drinking tea at a time like this?!" Zuko demanded. I looked at him as if surprised by his stupidity, "because I do not particularly like cold tea." A laugh followed my statement and we both turned to Iroh, "you see, Prince Zuko. Xia knows that there are times to march forward, but there are also times to take a step back." "What does that even mean?" Zuko asked furiously. "It means that I take time to think," I replied gently. "Now, why don't we go and continue your quest for the Avatar?" *I update by book. So the first thirteen chapters are book one. Updates are very slow, but over ten chapters at a time.
