A shy, introverted girl--Hazel--moves into a cottage in the forest with her family, and discovers a long, powerful, and seemingly endless river. On the other side of the river, lives a witch. Only Hazel can see this witch, yet they become close and good friends, although they've never been any closer to each other due to the river diving them. But something about this witch seems...off. She's not like the witches described in fairytales; in fairytales, they're wicked and scrawny, but this witch is kind and soft. And she isn't evil or manipulative, she's a good witch, right?
