Each god gets a necklace when the turn the human equivalent of 13. This necklace has their soulmates name carved into it in runes. The other person has the same thing. Gods can have a god or a mortal as their soulmate.
Y/n was kicked out of his home when he came out as gay and when the necklace appeared on him. Tony then adopted y/n as his son and he has been living in the avengers complex with them. Thor has convinced Loki to live there with them, even if he doesn't fight with them.
