Earth has a shadow, a barren wasteland, occupied by Faceless. Faceless are a version of the human race. They have one desire: to have faces. They have one hate: humans. Axel is the prime subject of The Murder Trials, an experiment designed to capture every possible facial expression. In  world where he is utterly alone, where he has lost all hope, Axel seeks out death. It can only tease him so many times. 

Unlike disease, there is no cure for rejection. For being an outcast. Not even in a land where magic exists. 

However, everything changes when he is reunited with the remainder of the human population. Earth is stable. That begins their journey back home. But it cannot be done alone. Is it possible for demons to seek help from angels?  

Whilst their lives between worlds is uncertain, death is certain.

The Houses that protected them are crumbling, falling into ruin as their members were culled down by angels and demons, as well as their own mad quest to save the world; the Pilgrimage, a vain attempt to steal into Eden and murder God himself. Soon, only the Scions will remain. Those that were left not due to merit, but because they were the last choice for being heroes. Those whose memories and minds are as damaged and eaten through as their world. Those who agreed to take on the mysterious Archons within their bodies and, through that contract, had ancient relics and rituals passed down to them. Monsters don't exist but humans do. Humans have a talent for destroying anything beautiful about to bloom. When the last human on Earth died, she died like a hero going home. In a world without a future, each passing moment is the end of the world. It is the year 2136, seven years from the supposed extinction of the human race. Along with Axel, a group of teenage boys wake up in a train with no memory of who they are or where they are going. They make up the remainder of the human population. They soon discover they are much further away from home then they thought. When they look outside, they realise the sky is black tinged with blood, the buildings are made of flesh and plumes of smoke escape from the cracks of the scorched grounds. Time does not exist here. Even the sun and moon has abandoned them. They quickly discover they are not alone leading Axel to believe he isn't the good guy after all. Truth to be told, he doesn't even think he's human. When Axel discovers something far worse then he could ever imagine, he knows no matter how much he wants it some stories won't have a happy ending. In fact, this might be the final ending for humans.
