The King of Brazil is a suspenseful, action-packed historical epic about folk hero Zumbi de Palmares.

Set in 17th century Brazil, this is the story of one of the most controversial figures in Brazilian
history-- the country's own equivalent of Spartacus. This is a person so influential, brilliant and
disruptive, that despite Portuguese historians' best efforts to erase him from memory, his legend
has persisted to this day in the Brazilian conscience. However, that memory has faded and risks
being lost at a time that his story and his message have never been more relevant and
important.

Zumbi, despite being a household name in Brazil, has a story that is surprisingly unknown to
most given that Palmares, the rebel nation that he led, at some point accounted for 20% of Brazil's population.

Zumbi is the story of the Brazilian people in a nutshell. It is a story of hope against massive
corruption, greed, and social disenfranchisement. It is the story of how one man led a nation of
runaway slaves, whores, homossexuals, and working class whites, and successfully fought, for
twenty years, one of the world's most powerful militaries-- and nearly toppled an empire. It is
Spartacus meets Moses meets Julius Caesar.

It is also the story of Brazilian folklore and culture.

This is an homage to Brazil. An honest telling of a story that has shaped the nation more than it
could ever know.

Jack: Book One in the Trilogy, the Battle Begins by gdorion

In Book 1, Jack conspires with friend Jeremy to undermine their racist, secessionist teacher's efforts to poison his students' minds with his benefits-of-slavery lectures. Will the students buy into it? Not if Jack has any say. The book is dedicated to my brother and to my old friend, Jack, the latter who, at 19, was killed speeding in his too-fast car, alone, in 1971. We met when I was a first grader at a Groton, Massachusetts parochial school. Jack was in second grade, I was in the first grade. One day Jack began teasing on the bus ride home so we got off at his bus stop to fight. I was little - he much bigger. He pinned me to the ground, forced me to quit. That kicked off our friendship that lasted years. Jack was a pitcher on the high school baseball team. He was so fast - somewhat wild. I was afraid to bat against him. He tried out for a professional farm team but didn't make it. He worked in the local factory and had no real career designs other than in sports which were the center of his life. Not long after his failed attempt(s) at major league baseball, he smashed into a tree at high speed on a quiet road early one morning. Jack had a 'hero complex' - needing to be the center of attention. He excelled at sports but wasn't interested in academics. He bet everything on his sports abilities that wowed neighborhood friends growing up. This story also is dedicated to both Jack and my brother, Paul, a friend of Jack's. Paul passed in January, 2016. I finally started Jack's story in 2000 when I began teaching in New York City. It dawned on me one day to transport Jack as a composite character - i.e., a character who has qualities and characteristics that Jack had but who also possessed ones he didn't have - into 1860's America. In the book, Jack becomes the hero - a status that mostly evaded him in real life. I think he would have been proud of the story. Many events are entirely fictional - some are not. All characters are fictional or partially so.

BUY NOW ON AMAZON https://a.co/d/g70Mn0L The Pearl and the Sea: The Legend of Dona Paula is a beautifully woven narrative that delves into the heart of one of Goa's most enduring love stories. Set during the Portuguese colonial era, this novel explores the forbidden romance between Dona Paula de Menezes, a noblewoman from a powerful family, and a local fisherman. Despite societal divides and the disapproval of her family, Dona Paula finds herself drawn to the fisherman's kindness and authenticity, a connection that defies the expectations imposed by her aristocratic heritage. At the heart of the tale is the tension between love and societal duty. When their union is forbidden by her father, Dona Paula is forced to confront the harsh reality that love is not enough to escape the constraints of class and status. Despairing, she makes a fateful decision, throwing herself from the cliffs into the sea, a tragic act that forever binds her story to the landscape of Goa. The novel explores how this myth has taken on a life of its own, with locals telling variations of the tale. Some say Dona Paula's ghost rises from the waters, searching for her lost love under the moonlight, contributing to the mysterious charm that draws visitors to Dona Paula Beach and the surrounding attractions. Readers will journey through historical sites like the Cabo de Rama Fort and the bustling markets of modern-day Goa, uncovering both the past and present influences of this legend. Blending myth, history, and romance, The Pearl and the Sea invites readers to reflect on the themes of forbidden love, personal freedom, and sacrifice, while exploring how stories like Dona Paula's continue to captivate imaginations. Whether fact or fiction, her legacy lives on in the sunsets over the Arabian Sea, where the whispers of her tale echo along the cliffs, beckoning lovers and dreamers alike to the enchanting shores of Goa
