David Verdin is the CEO of a company that sells as-seen-on-TV products. He wishes he were sitting on a pile of money, but he hasn't had a good idea in years, and he hasn't been exactly responsible with his earnings. So when his friend offers him the starring role on a reality television show--the Man of Your Dreams--David leaps at the chance.
Claire Le Mayes works in a comic book shop, though she has greater aspirations. She longs to start a charity that gives out comic books to underprivileged children--if only she could find the funding. When auditions for The Man of Your Dreams come to her town, she tries out in the hopes of earning some publicity for her idea.
Together, Claire and David conspire to fake a romance on television, and then to fake a nasty breakup in order to reap the tabloid profits. But when real feelings become involved, and David's ex-fiancee shows up, David and Claire both learn what it means to love in reality.
