Vendexa Collatus is apprenticed to one of the best dragon tamers in history. Her adoptive father, Xalvador, is renowned throughout Kuropia as the best of the best. After sixteen years of extensive training, particularly in combat, he's finally taking Vendexa to participate in the annual Dragon Tamer's Apprentice Tournament. If Ven does well enough, she will gain fame, riches, and a dance with the wife-seeking Prince of the Jade Kingdom.

However, a catastrophe at the Tournament forces her and a few others to run for their lives. Not only is so much interaction foreign to Ven, but she and her new companions have to work together to escape a warzone, survive through a harsh wilderness, and overcome huge loss.

Ven must choose to fight for a faction that she only knows through myths, or to follow her dream of becoming the best dragon tamer that ever lived. Vendexa must embrace parts of herself she never knew existed to survive.
