Sammy is young and lost, seeking a way to bring back his beloved cousin, Phoenix. Helpless and believing he should have died instead of her, he prepares to offer his life and resurrect her with the help of Holly Spicer, a powerful witch. However, just as he begins the spell, his mother offers to take his place, sacrificing herself to save her son. Moved by the magic and its powers, he asks to become Holly's apprentice and joins her and her two children in the many mysteries of the magical world, seeking to become magical himself.
