Everybody knows about them. Humans aren't supposed to go outside when it's night. If they go outside, they die. They get killed by them. The vampires. If they go outside and don't get killed, then they're mostly likely taken in as a blood slave. Being a blood slave is looked down upon. It's viewed similar to prostitution.
