For Reid Thompson, being popular was the only thing he had going for him. If you asked his friends, they'd tell you that he wasn't particularly good at much, unless it had something to do with a ball and the sound of cheering in the stands. His parents wouldn't know what to say, seeing as they don't pay him much attention in between arguments and threats of divorce.
Reid's life was once simple and easy-he went through each day without even thinking about it, much like we usually do. But it all changed and came crumbling down, and he found himself dreading the approach of each day.
Not knowing what else to do and feeling as if he was being pulled deeper and deeper into an endless ocean, Reid tries calling out for help from his friends and family. He dyes his hair blue, gets a few piercings and tattoos, but each call for help was only received with a compliment or a disapproving scowl.
Lancaster, or Lance, Danielson just wants to make it through his last year of high school. Coming from a new school after a horrifying bully incident gone too far, he doesn't know how to fit in, so he decides to just stick to the walls and stay invisible. But, with a long scar running down the middle of his throat and haunted, heavy eyes, the mute boy catches everyone's attention and the whispers start.
Reid doesn't pay the new kid much attention, having his own issues to deal with, but after stumbling in on the quiet boy painting in the art room, Reid finds himself with yet another issue... He cant seem to get the boy out of his head. And worse yet, he finds that the quiet boy might know him better than his family and friends.
