A couple hundred years ago when Spanish conquistadors colonized the land of the Aztecs, General Bastian Duarte was one of the many powerful men delirious on the possibility of discovering Gold, God, and Glory. Like many of those same men, General Duarte found nothing. He became mad, turning away from his own God and seeking the Devil himself to achieve the power and greatness he had always dreamed of. His deal with the Devil cursed generations of Duarte's female predecessors, and would continue to do so until his debt had been paid in full. Magdalena "Magda" Duarte has lived a life of tragedy, now at her twenty-one years of age she runs the Duarte Jewelry shop that has been in her family for generations alongside her Abuela Emma. Emma has a failing heart and knows she must prepare Magda for the inevitable. In their town of El Encanto, beautiful girls are stolen left and right by Vaqueros who care less about a girl's future and are desperate to keep their beds warm at night. Magda is beautiful, both a blessing and curse. Emma has seen the way men look at her Magda when they go to the mercado for groceries or when they come in to for their embellished knives and muskets. But Magda is stubborn and too smart for her own good, with a sharp tongue that men interpret as challenges. If Emma could sell all the jewelry in her shop to protect Magda, she would, but in El Encanto, women are few and jewels are abundant. With dwindling days, Emma does the unthinkable and bargins for the future of her granddaughter, with the man the town claims to be the devil himself.Todos los derechos reservados
