The summer before the third year happens differently for Harry. The Harry that returns to Hogwarts is not the same one who left. Harry decides to make some changes in his life. When Hermione had gotten Harry's firebolt confiscated, Harry did not get angry because he knew that Hermione was more important to him than any broom. As usual, Ron overacts at Hermione's decision to go to McGonagall about it and he gets mad at Harry for forgiving her. This incident causes a rift in their friendship because of their fight. With Ron not talking to them, both Hermione and Harry get closer to other befriending many new friends.
