Dragons are very rare in the modern world; still, we are aware of their existence. When we think of them (not that we do that very often) we tend to brush them aside in our minds next to tigers, bears, and other such animals. Sure, we all learned that they are not natural and that it's actually a virus that turns animals (and humans! We need to specify that. After all, we are not animals, right?) into these big leathery winged beasts, but it doesn't really affect us, so let's do what we humans do best and just ignore them.
Until the day comes when they start snatching babies...

A Dragon's Regret
Dragons are ravenous creatures, driven by a desire to consume the flesh of others, and it's no different for one that was soaring through the night on velvety wings when his hunger made itself known. But, on this night, he will discover there are other urges and cravings that are not so easily satisfied. Certain things that you can't take back. dragon rebirth
The dragons have come and gone since the Pliocene epoch when Wooly Mammoths roamed with humans during the ice age. For many of the I and E generation in the Americas and parts of Europe, it was something to avoid being taken by them to their world. But many knew the stories they told, the things they saw and missed, and in this world of social media, the child coming home, reborn as a shifter. For 16-year-old Nathan that was his reality. For 11 years he's not only avoided getting grabbed but helped others avoid a similar fate. But a black dragon was watching him grabbing him only to lay low in the nearby woods, something they did to pick out who'd they take. It did that for 10 years, more than 3 times longer than usual. His actions and the amount of time he had avoided them made him a sort of celebrity in his town in the midwest. But one day that black dragon made its decision, he was to be her hatchling. When they're usually marked the child could turn to protective mode, running from home to prevent drawing attention to other children for the picking, and that's what he did, right to where they last landed. Luck, choice, a possible spell in those claws, whatever you may think doesn't matter. A black dragon never misses its mark. With agility unsurpassed by the other types they're almost impossible to avoid. But these dragons didn't breathe fire, were a threat, nor in any way the size of a 747 max. All they had that was unique from other creatures was a highly evolved brain with the intelligence of a human and a heart of platinum. Note. Some creatures don't belong to me in any way. I have funny dreams with bipeds but I have a world to explore. Mommy still has to teach me how to fly and breathe fire but I want to know many things and I am very curious. One day a fireball crashed in the forest and a little biped like in my dreams was crying. I brought it home secretly so that it would not cry anymore. I didn't want mom to find my human doll! Children, one dragon and the other human will have to leave the wilderness to find civilization. It will take a lot of ingenuity and courage for our little dragoness to survive in our modern world in the age of the internet and find her dragon mom captured by soldiers. She will have to learn a lot, hide from new enemies and make allies if she ever wants to find her. She will also have to make terrible choices too early and too hard for 6 year olds. Inside her, a terrible sleeping power must not be awakened. Doors, universes of other dark and oppressive dimensions, saturated: I risk nothing? I risk something? What is this darkness? I am afraid!
