It's been 4 years since the defeat of Lord Garmadon and things have changed. The ninja are now in there Junior year of college, well all except one. 

Lloyd.

During the ninjas sophomore year of high school Lloyd and his parents mysteriously left ninjago city. The ninja retired at the end of high school do to peace being restored in ninjago. 

At least that's what they thought.
