Story of Bodo

The previous generation of scholars used the term 'Bodo' to denote the first Indo
Mongolian migrants in eastern India who subsequently spread across different regions of
Bengal, Assam and Tripura. Grierson identifies the Bodos as a section of the Assam-Burma group of Tibet-Burmese speakers belonging to the Sino-Tibetan-speaking family.1 S.K.
Chatterjee subscribes to the same view. According to him, these people migrated east
India in the second millennium BC and a large part of them was absorbed into the societies of the plains man in a fairly early state.2 Isolation caused the fragmentation of the original
