One night the police find their real family and Carter and Emma are forced to live with them. As much as Carter hates living with their new family, Emma is glad to get away from Lori. Lori abused Emma since she was five and now, she's out of Emma's life. 

Carter on the other hand hates not living with Lori. Lori was her mom... More than her mom, she was like a best friend to Carter. Carter never knew about Lori abusing Emma, because no one told her and she just never found out.
