Lady Cassandra Weatherford is desperate to marry a Lord. Her two younger sisters have been married off to wealthy Earls and her friends are all having children. While she stayed in the dark mostly keeping to herself and not notice by any man. Lady Cassandra is not hideous in any way. In fact, she is amongst the prettiest girls in London. But with her hiding on corners on a fortnight, and staying out of the crowd- mostly in attendant to her books and paintings- no one ever noticed how beautiful she was. But now that her weak mother is asking of her to be married before it's too late, she has taken the weight of the situation. Lord Howard Clementine, the Marquess of Devon, heir to his father, the Duke of Reynolds has been asked by his father to marry forthwith and give him his heir. Contrary to his liking, the Marquess of Devon would rather lavish himself on some affair than marry. His handsomeness, as he believes, must not belong to only a single woman. It belongs to the world. But with pressure from both parties and due to fate's string pulling them together, will opposite principled people like them be a good match or will it all end in flames?

Cassandra

Lady Cassandra Whitlock, the sister of the wealthy Duke of Somerhall, knows what is expected of young ladies in the ton such as her. She is to marry a wealthy, preferably titled, man and is to have no expectations of his fidelity. She is to remain subservient to him. However, she's never been good at meeting expectations. She is fully prepared to remain a spinster for the rest of her life until, in London, she encounters the Earl of Hawthorne, Christopher Weston, a secluded man but one who challenges all of her beliefs about society. She is instantly drawn to this elusive Lord Hawthorne, but is the farthest from prepared as one can be for an attachment.
