Marie is the daughter of an african slave and a wealthy englishman in the early 1800s. She learns to cope with her rapidly changing life as the reality of being a single, unmarried woman hits her hard. Her half sister is being courted by many suitors, while she is left feeling lonely and unwanted. When she is shipped off to Italy to take care of her close friends sick mother she realizes that she has been looking for something (or rather someone) in all the wrong places. What she needed was right in front of her the whole time. But will she be able to accept the fact that she was her own greatest obstacle?
