"You have no power over me," I said, but my voice trembled at the end, betraying me.

He smiled, so beautiful it would bring anyone to its knees. "You sure about that?"

***

There were no prison's anymore. No punishments and no death sentences.

Just the Islands.
All nine of them.

And they were those three things all at once.

***

When fifteen-year-old Anna loses both her parents, the heavy job of taking care of her younger sister falls on her shoulders.
Too young to find a job she starts to steal money, the only way she finds to get enough food on the table and to pay for her sister's school.

But one night, six years later, she gets caught and send to one of the Islands; Island Three. A place full with murders, rapists and criminals, walking freely while they can do whatever they want whenever they want. Completely alone, she wouldn't survive a week.

But that's when she meets him; one of the criminals, as dangerous as death and devastating beautiful. The son of Island Three's leader.

And everything changes. But nothing, nothing, is as it seems.

"Just give me a second, please," I whispered. He stopped. For a heartbeat, I thought maybe-just maybe-he'd turn back. Instead, his voice came, quiet but cruel. "A second? Why? Was four months not enough?" The words hit harder than any scream could have. "You don't understand," I said, but it wasnt a sound. More like a whisper. He spun around so fast it made me flinch. Now we were face-to-face, his breath uneven, eyes wild and shining. I could see the storm inside him, the tears he refused to let fall. "Don't understand what, Elaina?" he said. "Help me here. What don't I understand?" My throat tightened. The words wouldn't come. The truth was right there, pounding in my chest, begging to get out-but all that escaped was a trembling, "I..." Elaina, a brilliant crime detective, has just four months to track down the elusive and feared criminal mastermind known only as "The King." He rules a hidden empire of crime, feared by all, untouchable, and utterly ruthless. But nothing prepared her for what happens when the hunter becomes entangled with her prey. As Elaina goes undercover to gather evidence, she finds herself drawn into a dangerous world of secrets, lies, and moral gray areas-where every move could cost her career, her life, or both. And then there's him-the King himself. Cold, calculated, and untouchable, he's never believed in love...until her. As trust and suspicion collide, the line between right and wrong blurs, and both must navigate a deadly game where hearts, loyalties, and lives are on the line. Will Elaina capture him-or will she risk everything for the one man she's sworn to take down?

It Started With A Run

39 parts Complete

Cameron Black is the school's nice guy. He has the perfect life. The perfect girlfriend, the perfect family. Nothing bad has ever really happened to him. Annabel Carter is quite the opposite. Nothing in her life is going her way. She's in a gang for a multitude of reasons and the only family she has is her twin brother. They don't even go to the same school. They're different on so many levels, it's ridiculous. So what happens when Cameron goes on a run after having the first real problem of his life and stumbles into the warehouse that Anna and her friends use as their headquarters? And what happens when they recruit Cameron to expose the people at his school for the awful people they are? • • Excerpt • • "So... basically you're telling me to figure out my friends' secrets and then stab them in the back by telling you guys so you can quote-unquote 'take them down'?" I said in a clipped tone. I don't really like being rude to anyone, especially not to the leader of a gang, seeing as I want to keep my life. This though was kind of absurd. "I mean... if you want to live of course," Tyson said trying to scare me. And let me tell you, it definitely worked. I still didn't understand why he even cared. I mean don't gangs only care about drugs and money? *POV's Alternate*
