Shiloh's best friend went into the woods, and disappeared.

Every September in Black Lake, Washington, a few senior girls wake up in the middle of the woods, in the middle of the night. No one knows how or why.

Shiloh always suspected her best friend Madelyn would wake up out there. Only the best wake up in the woods, and Madelyn shines a little brighter than other people.

What is a surprise though, is that within a week of waking up alone in the dark, Madelyn is gone. Her car is found abandoned on an old logging road, but Madelyn herself has vanished. The police are convinced that she ran away to California to find herself, that she'll come home in a few weeks, a little tanner and wiser.

But Shiloh knows better. Something happened to Maddie in those woods, and she's going to find out what, no matter the cost.

[Wattys 2022 Winner!] Vanessa Brooks, an anxious and cynical seventeen year-old, discovers she can travel to the summer of 1953 through the run-down community pool in her rural Michigan town and risks her future as she falls for a boy who lives in the past. ****** On the last day of junior year, Vanessa Brooks joins her friends for a traditional jump into the city pool to celebrate the beginning of summer and the last year they plan to spend in Palmer, Michigan; a dead-end riverside town with an eerily abandoned historic main street and decaying Victorian mansions. But when she resurfaces her classmates have been replaced by girls in retro swimsuits and bathing caps and guys in thigh-baring briefs with cigarettes tucked behind their ears. When Pete Harrison, an unfamiliar face who seems somewhat familiar with hers, offers a dizzy and confused Vanessa a towel and a ride home, she discovers her house and family missing. She has somehow slipped into 1953, the year her grandparents graduated high school. Using the pool and vivid imaginings of her grandfather's memories, Vanessa continues to escape to 1953- and to Pete, who, despite his unaffected kindness and optimism, has a mysterious bad reputation around town. But as she dives deeper into the summer her grandparents fell in love, she finds herself unable to return to the present without venturing even further into the past to correct a mistake that threatens her family and future. *Content Warning: this story contains scenes of near drowning and other perils on the sea, swearing, smoking and alcohol use* This story is complete at ~90,000 words. Amanda Fulwood has always felt out of place. Since she can remember, she was never capable of distinguishing the real from the fake, her mind constantly questioning whether she lived what she remembered or if it was just an outstanding dream. There's always this voice in her head, this coldness so sudden whenever she comes back to it. As bone-chilling as the air in a morgue, the feeling never fails to keep her up at night. It only got worse over the years, her visions turning more and more vivid, constantly wandering further away from this realm every time. Living in a small town has its perks, especially when you're the mayor's daughter, but it also comes with a handful of disadvantages. Her reputation as the local nut-job precedes her, and when she's found naked on the school football field, it only furthers their assumptions. Once caged and once freed, Amanda still struggles with the reality she is to face, one where just maybe, she really is insane. Or maybe, her mind is the keeper of something darker, sinister even. For the small town of Milton Oaks, crime is a non existent hassle. So when Amanda's memories seem to correlate with the events of the darkest nights in town history, she's left with a mystery on her hands. One that holds all the explanations she craved, for all the years plagued by those thoughts. But going down that route is a path of no return. Once Pandora's box has been opened, there's no closing it back. Among all the questions Amanda has, the only one that is hers to answer is, "Can she handle it?" Read the book and find outπŸ˜‰
