A suspenseful, plot-driven novel following sixteen year old Lucas, who for all of his life since being abandoned as an infant has lived in a small settlement in a world plagued by a virus that turns men, women and children into homicidal, bloodthirsty beasts.
Lucas has never stepped foot outside the walls that separate the settlement from the dangerous wilderness beyond, but all of that is about to change.
Following a strange sighting, a death under mysterious circumstances, a dispute with the settlement's leader, the discovery of a secret room and the surfacing of an evil that will change Lucas' life forever, he is forced to flee from the settlement into the terrifying world beyond its walls.
