Chasing Zero
What lengths would you go to in order to achieve your dreams? Spencer has always seen the world through numbers. While they watch those in negative numbers strive for positives and those in the positives risk everything to stay in the positives, they long for the simplest of numbers: Zero. At Zero, they will experience true tranquility and feel at peace with themself. To help reach as close to Zero as possible, Spencer writes books, novelettes, poetry and more. By sharing their experiences as an agender person living with a mother who doesn't understand them (nor try to), they hope to inspire others and assure them they are not alone. When Spencer is given the opportunity to work with a publisher and publish their own book, they are determined to write a romance book proposal that no one will want to turn down. The only problem: none of their ideas are authentic enough. Since Spencer never felt the need to date before, their writing teacher encourages them to pursue romance to help inspire their book. While Spencer is determined to not date anyone, they are willing to give it a try for the sake of their writing. And when they find out their cute classmate seems to be interested in them, they decide to see where their blossoming relationship will go. Hi, I'm Wallace. A little bit about myself, I'm sixteen, seventeen next March. I'm transgender, so my gender and sex don't align. that's a pretty minute detail in my life, though. I'm an aspiring screenplay writer, work at our local 50's diner, Sally's, and have a group of great friends. I also happen to be living mostly out of my car. It's okay though, it's a pretty good life. No school, I was expelled. My brother stays with me a lot. Life is good. The title New Names is inspired by the identity struggle some trans kids go through, especially if they're in an unsafe environment. His boyfriend thinks he's cheating, his ex-girlfriend wants him back more than anything, and they're all terrible at laying down boundaries, so all that results in is a world of heartache and hurt for everyone. He suffers from depression and ADHD that he medicates with street drugs, which only makes everything worse, and with every step up the ladder he has to climb to get to the top, he slides back ten more rungs.
