When Tom Riddle, of the diary, senses the dormant horcrux in Aster's scar, the two soul fragments merge to create a phantom being named Marvolo. Marvolo is stronger than any single horcrux, but still has to depend on the diary and Aster's magic to exist. Instead of becoming enemies, Marvolo takes Aster under his wing, protects her, even cares for her, and trains her to be the perfect servant of the Dark for when Voldemort returns.

Harry Potter and Tom Riddle are something of an anamoly. Two powerful wizards, orphaned and linked to Death, while simultaneously being polar opposites. They are technically soulmates-the closest thing to it as they truly don't exist-and strange things are bound to happen. Especially when it's the soul of Tom Riddle is embedded into the soul of Harry Potter and the blood of Harry Potter is flowing inside the veins of Tom Riddle. What happens to one affects the other, whether they are aware of it or not, and they are bound irrevocably so. But the thing about Magic is that anything can happen with it-a mixture of blood magic, soul magic, and death magic is a recipe for all sorts of things. The thought of a pregnancy, though, never occurred in anybody's mind until it happened.
