"You need to find your father," she whispers and her voice is cracking.
Squeezing my hand she continues, "Take Xander with you and get out of here, don't waste time mourning for me, and stay safe. Y-your ab-abilities, keep them out of the wrong hands, m-most of all-- d-don't become the wrong hands. You will learn more about your father, but do not let that stop you from finding him. He is not the way that some may say."
I see Xander in the kitchen watching, probably listening too.
"Now hurry Alex, pack a duffel, take all of my savings in my closet, and have Xander do the same. Y-you need t-to get to s-safety and find your f-father. And please r-remember, do not become t-the wrong h-hands."
I hear her become silent as her last breath leaves her mouth, her hand becomes stiff.
Alex must learn about her true self and her father as well. Her mom's last words had said to ignore the
rumors about her father, this didn't make sense. Also, "Do not become the wrong hands", Alex struggles to find the meaning of her mother's last words. As Alex and her friend are on the run, they must decipher what is true and what is not. They must discover the secrets that were never said, and most of all, they must not become the wrong hands. Alex is learning so many things about her father and even her mom and her friend, yet she still knows nothing of herself. Her destiny has been set, though what if her destiny is wrong. Alex has to shape her own destiny and defy what is meant for her. What is destiny anyway?

"Who's out there?" One of the men yelled.
Of course only silence met them. I remained quiet and waited for the group to start moving again.
"Maybe it was just an animal." Someone whispered.
The person, who I assumed was the captain of the small squad, signaled for them to walk again.
They clearly showed fear as they kept going; brandishing their weapons to guard themselves with.
"Two are holding lanterns. I'll tell you when you're too close to them." I heard my friend whisper in my ear.
I followed the men as I picked up another branch and waited for the right time to break it. They continued to walk through the forest, turning their heads in every direction as if an animal might lunge at them and rip their throats out.
I guess in a way I was going to do that.
"Go back a few feet." My friend whispered.
I carefully distanced myself from the group and waited.
"Where is she?"
I quickly snapped the stick as soon as he finished asking the question.
They stopped and two soldiers raised their lanterns to shine its light in the darkness.
I quickly hid behind a tree before both of them turned where I was.
A low frustrated growl came from one of the men, "The girl's playing with us. She's out here following our every move."
How paranoia can cloud the mind.
