The peace-loving Fero Tribe is beset by their vicious ancestral enemy, the Naoori, and their only defense is an ancient pact of protection they have with the infamous Wizard who lives on Mount Orlag, a towering peak that looks over the Fero village. When the official envoy to the Wizard is struck down, two teenagers, Speck and Pyndir, must undertake a harrowing journey to plead for the Wizard's help in saving their families. Unbeknownst to them, roving bands of Naoori stand between them and the summit of the mountain, and betrayal nips at their heels. Can these two unlikely heroes save the day, or will their people perish?

I flickered my eyes as I could not see properly due to all the strain and stress. I could not make sense of the situation. I felt a sudden tug at my feet as I tried to pull them, realising that they were tied by the rope. My hands were free but there was a feeling of numbness in them.
