Hinata Shouyou is a bright and sunny girl, her friends always mistake her for a boy and are always friends with them. And as the story goes, sees the little giant on-screen and decides to play volleyball. (And uh-- kinda hide her gender) 

Kageyama is gay and was once in love with his narcissistic senpai, till he met that bouncy redhead boy (or so he thought) on the other side of the court and eventually becomes his teammate.

Long story short, Kags is stupid and profusely denies that he is gay for Hinata.
